Job summary

Actalent is hiring an Electrical Technician in Peoria, IL to support operator control systems, radios, lights, batteries, and related equipment. You will help ensure components meet internal standards by contributing to specifications, supplier evaluation, and validation.

You will read schematics, troubleshoot with multimeters/oscilloscopes, and participate in lab testing to validate components and support new product introductions. This is a contract role based in Peoria, onsite.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in electrical/electronics.
  • Strong hands-on electronics aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics.
  • Solid understanding of circuitry and component behavior.
  • Experience with J1939 datalink protocols.
  • Proficiency with test/measurement tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, micrometers).
  • Soldering and electronic repair work experience.
  • Experience with batteries, radios, joysticks, keypads, and ignition switches.
  • Knowledge of software/firmware concepts related to components.
  • Capability to perform lab testing and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Support operator control systems (radios, lights, batteries, joysticks, keypads, ignition switches).
  • Ensure purchased components meet internal standards; assist in spec development and supplier evaluation.
  • Contribute to writing specifications and vetting suppliers.
  • Define technical requirements for new product introductions with internal customers.
  • Assess suppliers for capability and timelines.
  • Validate components with suppliers to meet standards and customer expectations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical/electronic issues in the field; assist with lab testing and test plan development.
  • Develop and document test plans to validate supplied components.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting using MDOs and related tools.
  • Read electrical schematics to diagnose issues and verify circuit design.
  • Support lab-based testing and ensure safety procedures.

Job Title: Electrical Technician

Job Description

The Electrical Technician supports operator control systems and related electronic components, with a primary focus on radios, lights, batteries, and similar equipment. In this role, you help ensure that purchased finished components meet strict internal standards by contributing to specification development, supplier evaluation, and component validation. You collaborate with internal customers to define requirements for new product introductions, assess suppliers’ capabilities, and participate in lab-based testing activities, including writing test plans to validate supplied components.

Responsibilities
  • Support operator control systems, including radios, lights, batteries, joysticks, keypads, and ignition switches.

  • Work with purchased finished electronic components to ensure they meet internal quality and performance standards.

  • Contribute to writing specifications for electronic components and assist in vetting suppliers against these specifications.

  • Collaborate with internal customers to define technical requirements for new product introductions.

  • Assess and evaluate suppliers to confirm they can meet defined technical requirements and project timelines.

  • Work with suppliers to validate components, ensuring compliance with internal standards and customer expectations.

  • Assist with field resolution activities by troubleshooting electrical and electronic issues related to supported components.

  • Participate in lab work, including developing and writing test plans to validate supplied components.

  • Perform hands-on electrical and electronic troubleshooting and repair using tools such as multimeters, micrometers, and oscilloscopes.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics to diagnose issues and verify proper circuit design and implementation.

  • Apply knowledge of circuitry, datalink protocols, and J1939 to support system diagnostics and component validation.

  • Conduct lab testing on components and systems to verify performance, reliability, and adherence to specifications.

  • Document test results, observations, and recommendations to support continuous improvement of components and supplier performance.

  • Support software and firmware-related aspects of electronic components as needed, working with relevant stakeholders to resolve issues.

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient lab environment while handling electronic equipment and test instruments.

Essential Skills
  • Electrical or electronics Associate's or Bachelor's degree.

  • Strong hands-on electronics and electrical aptitude.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic schematics.

  • Solid understanding of circuitry and electronic component behavior.

  • Experience with datalink protocols, including J1939.

  • Proficiency using test and measurement tools such as multimeters, micrometers, and oscilloscopes.

  • Ability to perform soldering and electronic repair work on components and assemblies.

  • Experience working with batteries, radios, joysticks, keypads, and ignition switches.

  • Understanding of software and firmware concepts as they relate to electronic components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Comfort working with a variety of electronic systems used in operator controls and related equipment.

Work Environment

This is a lab-based role in an air-conditioned building, working primarily with electronic components and test equipment. You spend most of your time in a controlled laboratory environment, using tools such as multimeters, micrometers, oscilloscopes, and soldering equipment to test and troubleshoot components. The work involves close collaboration with internal teams and suppliers while following established lab procedures and safety practices.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Peoria, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
