Job summary

Actalent in Champaign, IL seeks an Engineering Technician to support engineering and manufacturing through routine testing, troubleshooting, and equipment checkout. You will assist engineers in developing and validating products, processes, and test rigs from schematics and plans.

The role is based in a hands-on lab environment within a research park, with peer-based training and day-to-day guidance from a Technician Team Lead. This contract-to-hire position offers onsite work in Champaign, IL.

Qualifications

  • The role requires an associate degree or two-year technical training preferred.
  • 1–2 years hands-on testing, engineering support, or technical environment experience.
  • Ability to interpret schematics and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting tasks from schematics and diagrams.
  • Identify routine malfunctions and assist in corrective actions.
  • Support engineers in design, modification, and evaluation of products and test equipment.
  • Record data accurately to support engineering analysis and decisions.
  • Follow procedures and safety guidelines to ensure accurate results and safety.
  • Support other tasks to aid operational and engineering goals.

Job Description

The Engineering Technician supports engineering and manufacturing operations by performing routine testing, troubleshooting, and equipment check-out activities. This role assists engineers in developing, modifying, and validating products, processes, and test equipment by working from schematics, diagrams, written instructions, and defined plans. The Engineering Technician uses a variety of diagnostic, test, and measurement tools to ensure accurate results and effective problem resolution.

Responsibilities
  • Perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting tasks using schematics, diagrams, verbal instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Identify routine malfunctions and assist in determining corrective actions.
  • Assist engineers in the design, modification, and evaluation of products, processes, and test equipment.
  • Conduct tests, collect data, and maintain accurate records to support engineering analysis and decision-making.
  • Follow all established procedures and safety guidelines to ensure accurate test results, equipment protection, and a safe work environment.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support operational and engineering goals.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency with electrical circuits, soldering, micrometers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Solid technical aptitude and familiarity with diagnostic/test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and test programs.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree or two-year technical/trade degree preferred.
  • Equivalent technical experience may be considered.
  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience in a testing, engineering support, or technical environment.
Work Environment

The role is based in a unique and highly hands-on lab environment, located within a research park. The work atmosphere is collaborative, with initial and ongoing training provided through a peer-based model. Day-to-day tasks are guided by a Technician Team Lead, with exposure to multiple team members for broader knowledge sharing. The organization emphasizes building independence once training is complete.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Champaign, IL.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $31.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
