Job summary

Walla Walla Nursery Co is seeking a Greenhouse Supervisor to oversee rooted plant care, nutrient and irrigation management, and environmental controls in our WA facility. You will work with the WA Grow Manager to optimize rooting, weaning, and finishing stages, ensuring plant health and efficient production.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong observation skills, data tracking, safety compliance, and a willingness to work weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent knowledge.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer and math skills.
• Horticulture knowledge a plus but not required.
• Good time management and prioritization.
• Self-motivated with attention to detail.
• Adaptive personality with flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Works closely with WA Grow Manager and Assistant Grow Manager with developing grow plans for all rooted material.
• Controls young plant rooting environments to meet the needs of newly propagated crops.
• Balances environmental variables to minimize plant stress and hasten rooting times.
• Develops understanding of plant needs through observation and self study.
• Supports plant health by supplying nutrients and irrigation as crops establish.
• Identifies optimum rooting environments and groups plant types accordingly.
• Uses automation to manage environmental controls and ensure systems function.
• Ensures sanitation of rooting areas and keeps surfaces algae- and slime-free.
• Removes dead or dying cuttings and maintains weed-free propagation areas.
• Scouts daily for disease and insect outbreaks and supports IPM.
• Promotes plant structure via trimming and PGR applications where appropriate.
• Coordinates relocation of plants between rooting, weaning, and finishing areas.
• Documents inventory changes and establishes baseline metrics for improvements.
• Trains backup staff to ensure continuous operation across shifts.
• Works weekends on rotation to perform watering duties.
