Job summary

University of Washington Biology Greenhouse is seeking a Plant Technician 3 to join our team, reporting to the Manager of Program Operations. This role involves hands-on plant cultivation across teaching, research, outreach, and display programs, with leadership responsibilities for staff, students, interns, and volunteers.

The successful candidate will supervise greenhouse operations, coordinate plant production, and support instructional goals while maintaining meticulous records of treatments

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED with four years of plant research experience, including one year managing a major farming operation.
• College training in plant sciences may substitute for required experience.
• Experience training and managing staff, students, interns and volunteers.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize time-sensitive teaching, research, and plant-care responsibilities.
• Must obtain WA pesticide applicator license within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and perform care and maintenance of crops and plants for teaching, research, outreach, and display.
• Coordinate plant production according to instructional and research schedules.
• Train and direct staff, students, interns, and volunteers in greenhouse practices.
• Monitor plant health and environment, adjust cultivation practices accordingly.
• Maintain accurate plant records, treatments, and operational documentation.
