Greater Richmond Fit4Kids, in partnership with AmeriCorps, provides direct service in schools and community settings across the Richmond region to promote healthy lifestyles, physical activity, and nutrition education for children and families.
AmeriCorps members serve part-time schedules during the 2026–2027 program year, engaging outdoors, supporting gardens and bike education, and collaborating with schools and partners.
Greater Richmond Fit4Kids is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving children's health and wellness through increased physical activity and healthy eating. The Fit4Kids AmeriCorps program provides meaningful service opportunities for individuals who are passionate about working with youth, promoting healthy lifestyles, and creating healthier communities. Members serve primarily in schools and community settings throughout the Richmond region, with a focus on advancing health equity and supporting children and families in under-resourced communities. AmeriCorps members provide direct service through a variety of Fit4Kids programs, including school and community gardens, Learn to Ride bike education, Game On, Girl!, recess coaching, nutrition education, healthy hydration initiatives, community engagement events, and middle and high school wellness programming. Responsibilities may include leading educational activities, facilitating physical activity, maintaining gardens and bicycles, supporting family engagement initiatives, collecting program data, and assisting with community outreach and volunteer projects. Members should be comfortable working outdoors, engaging with children of all ages, and collaborating with schools and community partners. Fit4Kids is recruiting Three Quarter-Time, Half-Time, Reduced Half-Time, Quarter-Time, and Minimum-Time AmeriCorps members for the September 1, 2026-August 31, 2027 service year. Typical service hours are Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with schedules varying by service position. Members receive comprehensive orientation and ongoing professional development covering topics such as classroom management, child abuse prevention, bike safety, garden education, nutrition education, conflict resolution, data collection, leadership development, and career readiness. Training and professional development will not exceed 20% of total service hours.
