Job summary

Keystone Shipping Co. in Traverse City, MI seeks an experienced Mate to supervise crew aboard Great Lakes vessels. You will stand 8–12 navigation watches, fill trip sheets, and prepare Vessel Operation Reports for the Army Corps of Engineers.

Must hold Merchant Mariner Credentials and TWIC, be ready to live 7 days a week in remote conditions, and comply with USCG medical standards. English proficiency is required; Bridge Resource Management training is a plus.

Qualifications

• Must hold Merchant Mariner Credentials and TWIC.
• Live aboard 7 days a week in remote environment.
• Must maintain licenses and regulatory qualifications per USCG NVIC 04-08.

Responsibilities

• Stands the 8–12 navigation watch
• Fills out the trip sheets
• Fills out the Army Corps of Engineers Vessel Operation Report
• Inventories and maintains all medical equipment and kits
• Develops and maintains good customer relations for the fleet
• Other functions as assigned by the Captain

Education

First Class Pilot of vessels of unlimited tonnage on the Great Lakes (preferred)

Mate of self-propelled vessels (not including auxiliary sail)

Mate of unlimited tonnage on Great Lakes/Inland Waters

Radar Observer

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Bridge Resource Management Training (Merchant Mariner Credentials)
