Job summary

Grand River Navigation Company, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Engineer to join our US-flagged self-unloading Articulated Tug Barge Units on the Great Lakes. The role covers watchkeeping, routine maintenance, and support for deck and engine systems.

Join a safety‑driven, team‑oriented crew with strong emphasis on rotation and training. Responsibilities include operating engineering watches, maintaining equipment, and performing tasks from the maintenance system.

Qualifications

• TWIC Card required.
• US Passport or Enhanced Driver's License with Canada entry.
• MMC Endorsement DDE - Unlimited or Assistant Engineer Limited (Minimum).
• Legally authorized to work in the US without restriction.
• Excellent communication and ability to multi-task.
• Experience working as a team and willing to work as a team player.
• Alignment to company values: Customer experience, health/safety/environment, integrity and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Safely manning an Engineering Watch.
• Complete tasks as assigned by Preventative Maintenance System.
• Maintain Engine and Deck Equipment (air compressors, winches, sewage units, ballast pumps, potable water pumps, OWS).
• Other duties assigned by Vessel’s Chief Engineer.
