Keystone Shipping Co. is seeking qualified mariners for mates to sail aboard vessels operating on the Great Lakes. The role requires maintaining essential navigational and safety duties, including watchstanding and document completion.

The position emphasizes high compliance with USCG standards, remote-environment living, and ongoing credential maintenance. Applicants must hold a comprehensive marine license set and TWIC, with readiness for demanding schedules.

Qualifications

• Must hold Merchant Mariner Credentials: First Class Pilot of vessels of unlimited tonnage on the Great Lakes between Duluth, Gary and Buffalo and between Port Weller and Cape Vincent
• Mate of self-propelled vessels (not including auxiliary sail)
• Mate of unlimited tonnage on Great Lakes and Inland Waters/upon Oceans/near coastal waters
• Radar Observer
• Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
• Willing to live 7 days a week in a remote environment with limited medical access
• Maintain licenses and qualifications per regulations, current and future
• USCG NVIC 04-08 health, vision and hearing standards
• English language fluency (written and verbal)

Responsibilities

• Stands the 8-12 navigation watch and supervises crew activities aboard ships, boats, barges, or dredges
• Fills out trip sheets and the Army Corps of Engineers Vessel Operation Report
• Inventories and maintains medical equipment and kits
• Develops and maintains good customer relations for the fleet
• Other duties as assigned by the Captain
