Job summary

Grand River Navigation seeks a Great Lakes Master (Captain) to lead vessel operations on the Great Lakes. You will command safety, seaworthiness, and crew performance while ensuring regulatory compliance and efficient navigation across ports and locks.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills are required.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic maritime environment.
  • Licenses/certifications listed in the requirements must be valid.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain command and accountability for safe vessel operation.
  • Ensure seaworthiness, safety, security, and readiness of vessel, equipment, cargo, and crew.
  • Safely navigate the vessel through Great Lakes waterways and ports.
  • Oversee all vessel operations and decision-making as Company representative onboard.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Lead and mentor crew while fostering safety and professionalism.
  • Direct emergency response and critical operational decisions.
  • Oversee voyage planning, risk assessment, and cargo operations.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
