Job summary

The City of Irvine is seeking a Graphic Designer – Community Engagement Specialist II Apprentice to create professional layouts and artwork for flyers, brochures, social media graphics, signage, and reports while delivering strong administrative support to the Communications & Engagement Department.

The apprenticeship is grant-funded for 14 months, with specialized professional development, mentorship, and training, prioritizing Irvine residents 18–30 and those meeting other criteria.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in commercial arts, fine arts, graphic arts, or closely related field.
• Ability to create original designs using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
• Three years of graphics production experience or equivalent knowledge/experience.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and design layouts and artwork for fliers, brochures, booklets, social media graphics, signage, awards, reports, publications, posters, maps, and digital newsletters.
• Coordinate printing and quoting of brochures, fliers, posters, and other publications, and prepare print-ready art files.
• Design and prepare graphs, charts, diagrams, and maps to illustrate statistical and technical data.
• Assist in coordinating activities with reprographic unit, printers, photographers, writers, editors, and publication service suppliers.
• Perform administrative duties and maintain records of work requests and completed projects.
• May photograph events, programs, and activities.
