Qualifications

Job description

The Grants Manager is responsible for leading the Housing Assistance Corporation's grant funding strategy through the identification, development, submission, and management of grant opportunities. This position serves as the primary coordinator for foundation, corporate, and government grant funding and works collaboratively across departments to secure resources that advance HAC's mission.

The Grants Manager manages the full grant lifecycle, including prospect research, proposal development, submission, compliance, reporting, and stewardship. The position requires strong writing, project management, and relationship-building skills, as well as the ability to navigate the requirements of both public and private funding sources.

Salary Range

$63,000-70,000 commiserate with experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Grant Research and Prospect Development
  • Research and identify grant opportunities from private foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other funding sources that align with HAC's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Monitor funding announcements, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs), and other grant opportunities.
  • Evaluate funding opportunities and assess organizational readiness, competitiveness, and alignment.
  • Maintain a comprehensive grants pipeline and prospect tracking system.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with funders, program officers, and funding partners.
Grant Writing and Proposal Development
  • Lead the preparation, writing, editing, and submission of grant proposals and funding applications.
  • Collaborate with the CEO, program staff, finance staff, and external partners to gather information and develop compelling funding requests.
  • Draft persuasive narratives, letters of inquiry, budgets, supporting documentation, presentations, and other grant materials.
  • Ensure all applications are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Participate in identifying collaborative funding opportunities and strategic resource development partnerships.
Grant Management and Compliance
  • Coordinate pre-award and post-award grant activities across departments.
  • Monitor grant performance and compliance requirements throughout the grant lifecycle.
  • Prepare and submit grant reports, reimbursement requests, performance updates, and other required documentation.
  • Track grant deliverables, reporting deadlines, and financial obligations.
  • Work closely with finance and program staff to ensure expenditures, outcomes, and reporting requirements are aligned with funder expectations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate grant files and records.
Program Growth and Strategic Development
  • Support the growth of HAC's grant portfolio by increasing the number and quality of grant applications submitted annually.
  • Analyze funding trends and recommend strategies to diversify and strengthen revenue sources.
  • Educate staff on grant requirements, funding opportunities and best practices for grant readiness.
  • Participate in strategic planning, organizational development, and fundraising initiatives as assigned.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain and manage the organizational grants calendar.
  • Prioritize multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining high-quality work products.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and organizational planning processes.
  • Prepare reports and presentations related to grant activity and funding outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of three to five years of direct experience in grant writing and grant management.
  • Demonstrated success securing grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Experience managing grant compliance, reporting, and post-award administration.
  • Experience working within a nonprofit organization, public agency, educational institution, or related setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and research capabilities.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising practices and grant administration.
  • Understanding of government funding processes, compliance requirements, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to travel locally for meetings, trainings, and community events as needed.

This position is based in Hendersonville, North Carolina. With some remote work possible, the role primarily operates in a professional office environment. Occasional attendance at community meetings, funder visits, conferences, and organizational events may be required.
