Job summary

Ashland Theological Seminary seeks a Grants Finance & Compliance Manager to lead finance operations across the ATS Grants portfolio, ensuring sound financial performance and risk management. A key objective is launching a Rural and Small Towns microgrants mechanism with 70+ annual awards, coordinating with university partners to ensure compliance.

The role requires grants or nonprofit financial management experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to implement fit-for-purpose

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Three plus (3+) years of direct experience in grants financial management or nonprofit financial management.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with ability to maintain comprehensive oversight while triaging issues.
Demonstrated experience building or improving fit-for-purpose financial systems and workflows.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; direct experience configuring grant management, accounting, or business analytics software is highly preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to the ATS mission and ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

Lead monthly financial projections, burn-rate analyses, and reconciliations across the portfolio.
Maintain audit-ready documentation and ensure financial practices follow internal controls and award/subaward terms.
Partner with Program Director to design and launch a microgrants mechanism issuing 70+ grants annually and establish processes with University stakeholders.
Provide financial and compliance oversight of subgrantees, microgrant recipients, and key vendors; identify and track risks.
Manage documentation and accounting for leverage commitments across the portfolio ($2M).
Offer targeted training on compliance and financial best practices to seminary staff and partners.
Serve as a key partner to Program Director in portfolio planning, risk management, and stakeholder relationships.
