Job summary

UCAR is seeking a Budget Analyst I to provide budgetary support to the Research Applications Laboratory (RAL). You will assist with pre- and post-award management, prepare proposals and supporting documents, develop budgets, and perform financial analysis and reporting for project leaders and staff.

You will work within the RAL Administrative team, providing back‑up support to colleagues and ensuring timely, accurate financial records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant academic discipline, plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• General knowledge of grant and contract proposal preparation and submission processes and procedures.
• Demonstrated organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to pay close attention to detail and meet multiple deadlines.
• General knowledge of government and institutional grant and contracting requirements.
• Proficiency in word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
• Ability to work independently and in a diverse team; excellent oral and written communication; discretion with sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Creates supplemental documents for proposal submission, including budgets and related forms for investigators and collaborators.
• Collaborates with PIs and collaborators on lead and non-lead proposals to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Provides budget and finance support for a program; prepares forecasts, reports, and salary transfers; closes out accounts as needed.
• Assists with subawards, subcontracting documentation, and ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
• Acts as Export Compliance Coordinator for restricted screenings.
• Supports reconciliation of sponsor and vendor invoicing and monthly postings.
