Job summary

American Farmland Trust seeks a Grants Accounting Supervisor to lead the grant accounting function, supervise a team, and ensure GAAP compliance across federal, state, and foundation funding. The role emphasizes nonprofit grant management, accurate reporting, and adherence to funder requirements in a remote setting.

The candidate should have 5+ years in nonprofit grant accounting, advanced Excel skills, and experience with large federal awards. CPA is a plus; supervising staff is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in grant accounting within the nonprofit sector or government agencies.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and financial modeling.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and ability to stay current on ASC changes.
• Ability to lead and mentor a high-performing team.
• Experience with large federal awards and familiarity with USDA regulations (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Oversee grant agreement accounting, invoicing, and financial reporting across funding sources.
• Interpret grant terms to ensure compliance with guidelines and reporting deadlines.
• Coordinate collections of accounts receivable and revenues from grants.
• Maintain grant accounting tracker and central filing for active grants.
• Monitor match requirements and prepare year-end reports for audits.
• Provide training and guidance to grant accountants and project managers.
• Stay updated on USG grant management policies and update internal guidance.
• Escalate significant accounting issues to leadership as needed.
