Job summary

MFAN, a national nonprofit, seeks an Accountant to perform a broad range of accounting and financial support functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial activities. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will support month-end close, audits, and financial reporting, while maintaining internal controls.

The role is fully remote (US contigu ous states) with standard hours and travel as needed; requires a Bachelor’s in accounting, nonprofit experience, and strong Excel/GAAP

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with accounting coursework and 3+ years of professional accounting experience.
• Knowledge of GAAP and ability to apply it to varied transactions.
• Experience in reconciliations and journal entries.
• Ability to analyze transactions, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues.
• Experience in the nonprofit sector.

Responsibilities

• Support cash balance monitoring and investigate discrepancies.
• Complete reconciliations of cash and investments; assist with close processes.
• Maintain general ledger integrity and internal controls documentation.
• Assist with budgeting, financial reporting, and Form 990 preparation.
• Support annual audit with documentation and auditor responses.
• Handle grants, donations, and program service revenue accounting.
