Job summary

First Call is seeking a Grant Writer to manage its grant program, identify funding sources, and craft compelling proposals. The role involves coordinating with program staff, tracking progress, and ensuring timely submissions.

The candidate will handle 70–90 proposals annually and may travel for duties. Qualifications include at least two years in grant writing or related fields and a bachelor’s degree, with strong writing, research, and time-management skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years experience in grant writing, fundraising, journalism, or technical writing, and a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
• Exceptional written communication with an eye for detail, storytelling, grammar, and tone.
• Excellent time management skills – this position will function as a project manager for First Call’s grant program
• Knowledge of Kansas City funding landscape
• Familiarity working in a community based nonprofit, preferably a human services organization
• Strong research skills

Responsibilities

• Identify potential funding sources and research grant opportunities.
• Write and submit grant proposals and reports in response to funder guidelines.
• Support post-award management including tracking progress and reporting.
• Coordinate with program staff to gather data, stories, and insights for proposals.
• Collaborate with data analysts for reporting needs and to maintain grant calendars.
• Some in-town and out-of-town travel may be required; weekend/evening hours are possible.
• Backup front desk coverage and other duties as needed.
