Job summary

New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) seeks a Grant Officer to support the full lifecycle of grants, including prospect research, proposals, and renewals, in service of NYLAG’s mission to advance civil legal services for those in need.

You will collaborate with the development team, legal staff, and leadership, crafting compelling letters, reports, and renewals, while maintaining grant calendars and ensuring timely submissions in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3–5 years of nonprofit grant-writing experience.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; the ability to translate complex information to tell a clear and compelling story.
  • Demonstrated success securing 5-, 6-, and 7-figure grants from government and foundation funders.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize various prospecting tools to identify and secure new funding sources.
  • Passion for NYLAG’s mission and ability to translate that passion in writing.
  • Strong project management skills; ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders to meet proposal deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the development team, legal staff, and financial counselors to draft and submit compelling letters of inquiries, proposals, reports, and renewals.
  • Perform prospect research on government, foundations, and corporate funders; identify potential fits between funder priorities and NYLAG’s goals.
  • Craft compelling case statements and other materials to support institutional and philanthropic fundraising.
  • Engage with staff and data teams to gather information to strengthen proposals, reports, and renewals.
  • Monitor grant expectations, deliverables, and program updates; maintain regular communication with stakeholders for a portfolio of grants.
  • Maintain grant calendars; coordinate with program staff to prepare proposals, reports, and renewals for timely submission; develop streamlined protocols.
  • Collaborate with the development team to steward current funders, including updates and site visits.
  • Maintain updated grant records and donor database entries.
  • Develop protocols to ensure timely submission of proposals and reports.
