Job summary

North Star Fund seeks a Program Officer for New York City to advance activist-led grantmaking across 60+ NYC grantees and partner with the Philanthropy Programs team to strengthen grassroots organizing in New York City.

The role is full-time and reports to the Philanthropy Programs Director, with a collaborative, hybrid work model in New York City. The officer will engage grantees, manage cycles, and support capacity-building and learning.

Qualifications

• Deep commitment to social justice and racial equity in philanthropy
• Experience with grassroots-led movement building and community organizing
• Strong collaboration, communication, and facilitation skills
• Ability to manage complex grantmaking cycles and reporting
• Proven ability to build trust with diverse grantee partners
• Comfort working in a hybrid or flexible work environment

Responsibilities

• Facilitate NY Community Funding Committee processes and ensure alignment with North Star Fund priorities.
• Support grantee capacity-building, learning, and organizational development.
• Collaborate with grants team to manage due diligence and documentation.
• Capture and share impact data to inform fundraising and communications.
• Lead and participate in funder tables and coalition work in NYC/Hudson Valley.
• Design and implement multiple grant cycles per year in collaboration with staff.
• Attend grantee events to build relationships and collect learning insights.
