Job summary

Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) seeks a strategic Grant Writer to secure public and private funding to support civil legal services for low‑income communities across Los Angeles County. You will translate complex legal work into compelling proposals, overseeing multiple grants from local, state, and federal levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, English, or related field, or comparable work experience.
• Minimum of three years’ grant writing experience with a demonstrated track record of securing public local, state and/or federal funding.
• Exceptional research, writing, editing and storytelling skills with ability to translate complex information into persuasive proposals.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to enhance grant research, drafting, and editing processes.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Familiarity with grant research using fundraising sourcing resources.

Responsibilities

• Research and assess funding opportunities to support civil legal services for low‑income people across LA County.
• Navigate platforms to identify funding opportunities.
• Collaborate with advocates to translate programs into compelling proposals with case story examples.
• Write and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers, and grant proposals to government agencies.
• Create and utilize databases to track grant applications and progress.
• Work with Development and Fiscal Staff on materials and budgets for proposals.
• This hybrid role requires on-site work at least four days per week; occasional travel within LA County may be required.
