Job summary

The Grant Specialist at the Boston Public Health Commission oversees financial management and compliance for sponsored grants, guiding program staff and ensuring sponsor terms are met through timely reporting, audit readiness, and policy adherence.

This role partners with program directors and bureau admins to monitor budgets, prepare analyses, and support closeouts with a focus on accurate ledgers, grant invoicing, and adherence to federal Uniform Guidance.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field or equivalent.
• Associate Degree with 2 years post-award grants experience.
• 4 years post-award grants experience may substitute for degree.
• 2-3 years of transferable post-award grants experience is required.
• Nonprofit or city/municipal agency experience preferred.
• Understanding of Federal Uniform Grant Guidance (2 CFR 200) a plus.
• Experience with grant accounting, budgeting and reporting processes.

Responsibilities

• Maintain financial management and oversee compliance for grants and contracts.
• Review grant setup requirements for accuracy and compliance.
• Collaborate with programs to meet grant requirements and audits.
• Assist with Uniform Guidance audits and sponsor audits as needed.
• Review grant transactions before entry into the accounting system.
• Ensure expenditures align with award terms and policies.
• Prepare detailed financial analyses and keep project records audit-ready.
• Ensure payroll, reimbursement, and personnel policies are followed.
• Assist in cost-share reporting and closeout activities.
• Provide backup coverage for other grants staff during absences.
