Job summary

WFR is seeking a Grain Buyer to manage the purchase and sale of grain and other commodities, oversee risk and inventory positions, and handle contracts. The role emphasizes building long-term relationships with farmers, producers, and customers, while negotiating terms and ensuring timely settlements.

The position requires knowledge of grain markets, contracts, and logistics, with responsibilities spanning bidding, pricing, hedging, and coordinating delivery and storage.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred in agricultural business, agricultural economics, animal science, or related field.
• Experience in agriculture or sales preferred.
• Knowledge of grain contracts, basis, and futures markets preferred or willingness to learn.
• Knowledge of livestock nutrition and feed products preferred or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Buy grain from farmers, quote bids, discuss delivery periods and terms, and negotiate purchases within approved limits.
• Write, confirm, and manage purchase and sale contracts, including cash, forward, and basis contracts.
• Oversee risk position and maintain hedges to minimize futures risk on owned grain.
• Proactively build and maintain relationships with farmers, livestock producers, feed customers, and buyers/sellers.
