Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience / training.
  • Previous experience advising students at the university level.
  • Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Familiarity with EECS programs and requirements.
  • Skills in monitoring/assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
  • Skills in project management and leadership; able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Interest in supporting work of a large academic department in a research university.

Responsibilities

  • Academic advising: Identifies and resolves intricate student issues / grievances and advises on petitions and course approvals.
  • Advises graduate students on degree programs, maintains records, and communicates deadlines.
  • Advises chairs/deans on policy formulation and analyzes policy consequences.
  • Recommends resolutions to Director/VC Grad Matters; handles petitions and exceptions.
  • Composes correspondence and manages graduate division forms.
  • Advises faculty on graduate policies and coordinates with staff and committees.
  • Oversees CS division's preliminary exam and biannual graduate student review.
  • Collaborates with administrative groups to modernize student information systems.
  • Assists admissions officers with recruitment and workshops; provides data for planning.
  • Participates in professional student services committees and stays current with trends.
