Overview

Free Baltimore is seeking a motivated, community-focusedMaster’s Level Student Internto facilitate transformative group sessions. This role is a unique opportunity for students in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Substance Abuse programs to gain high-impact, "on-the-ground" experience.

You will leadCognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)groups specifically designed for youth and adults navigating the critical transition from incarceration back into the Baltimore community. We are looking for an intern who can balance clinical theory with authentic, real-world empathy.

Group Schedule & Commitment

Sessions are held during the following windows. Applicants must be able to commit to the full schedule:

  • Monday:10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Thursday:3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Facilitation:Lead structured CBT groups for justice-involved populations, focusing on identifying triggers, reframing distorted thinking, and developing healthy coping mechanisms.
  • Population-Specific Support:Address the unique socio-economic and psychological hurdles of reentry, including recidivism prevention, family reunification, and substance use recovery.
  • Skill Building:Help participants develop pro-social communication and emotional regulation skills.
  • Documentation:Maintain professional session notes (DAP/SOAP format) suitable for clinical supervision and program tracking.
Qualifications
  • Education:Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program (MSW, Psychology, Counseling, or related field).
  • CBT Foundational Knowledge:A strong understanding of the CBT model and a desire to apply it in a group setting.
  • Cultural Competence:A deep respect for the Baltimore community and an understanding of the systemic challenges faced by returning citizens.
  • Professionalism:Ability to maintain clinical boundaries while remaining approachable and supportive.
