Job summary

The New School is seeking a Graduate Assistant for the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). The role supports year‑round NYS‑funded activities and reports to the HEOP Director.

This on‑campus position is housed in Student Affairs and involves administrative duties, event support, and coordination of stipend disbursements. Ideal candidates are organized, collaborative, and passionate about expanding access to education for economically and educationally disadvantaged

  • Uses good judgment, thinks critically and thoughtfully.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms such as IG, Facebook, etc.
  • Experience with researching, brainstorming, ideating, and creating programming and marketing materials.
  • Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 35lbs.
  • Positive professional with a genuine interest in working with a diverse population of students.
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Support the HEOP program with event preparation including but not limited to transporting materials, decorating & arranging spaces, and event breakdown/clean-up
  • Perform administrative duties related to the functional operation of the HEOP Space
  • Assist with stipend and monthly check disbursements for all HEOP students.
  • Communicate important information regularly to first‑year HEOP students via email
  • Assist the Director with day to day operations of the HEOP program which include, but not limited to, planning and implementing workshops during the summer program and academic year, supporting with financial and program reporting, supervise HEOP student workers and summer counselors, and assist HEOP students with the development of their study and time management skills.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, one‑on‑one meetings with the HEOP Director, and attend any other meetings necessary for the academic and programmatic success of HEOP and HEOP students.
