Job summary

Barnhill Contracting Company is seeking a capable supervisor to lead daily project operations and ensure safety and efficiency on site. You will guide crews, coordinate with mentors, and help meet project goals while upholding the company’s mission and core values.

Responsibilities include plan interpretation, mentoring field personnel, and ensuring proper resource allocation to achieve productivity and quality benchmarks. This role demands strong communication and hands-on leadership.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 0–5 years of experience in the construction industry.
• Required certifications: NC Driver License; OSHA 10 or 30-hour; MSHA; EEO; Asphalt Certification; Smith System Defensive Driving.

Lead, direct and oversee the safe and effective daily operation of a project crew. Take action as needed to ensure project goals, objectives and initiatives are met in alignment with the mission, vision and core values of Barnhill Contracting Company.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Learn and develop competency in production rates, goals and equipment and manpower capabilities.
• Collaborate with mentors on leading project teams to implement and maintain a clean and safe work site, and to motivate field operations teams to their highest efficiency to exceed project, equipment, requirements, quality control and operating division productivity and budget goals.
• Effectively implement the day‑to‑day schedule/coordination to ensure the field team is working efficiently and effectively.
• Assist the Superintendent/Project Manager in the management of the overall schedule by maintaining open communication of project material, manpower needs and potential challenges or delays.
• Understand and apply basic plan reading and adherence to plans and specifications.
• Read, understand and apply the details of the plans to complete the job independently.
• Promote and support good internal and external relationships throughout the divisions of Barnhill Contracting Company, with clients and the public.
• Provide onsite training and mentoring of direct reports and field personnel by setting clear and attainable goals and coaching.
• Collaborate with mentors on effective planning and communication of project needs such as labor, equipment, materials, etc. Understand equipment capabilities and maximize utilization.

Minimum Qualifications & Training

• High School degree or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.
• 0–5 years of experience in the construction industry.
• Required certifications or licenses: NC Driver License; Erosion Control Level II; OSHA 10 or 30‑hour; Traffic Control Installer Certification; Traffic Control Supervisor Certification; MSHA; EEO; Asphalt Certification; Smith System Defensive Driving.

Essential to Job Functions

• Standing, walking, stretching, bending, lifting, pulling, twisting, throwing, reaching and squatting.
• Regular lifting of 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Walking and standing may require a full day of 12 to 15 hours.
• Exposure to sometimes extreme hot and cold temperatures.
• Riding to and from work; driving a company vehicle when required, subject to company driver qualification standards.
