Job summary

Barnhill Contracting Company is seeking a general laborer to support asphalt paving and grading crews on site in North Carolina. The role involves assisting with material handling, equipment spotter duties, and performing unskilled tasks under supervision.

Candidates should have a willingness to learn multiple tasks, a valid NC driver's license if possible, and be able to work long hours with safety in mind. Training will be provided for the designated spotter role.

Qualifications

• One year experience preferred but training provided.
• NC Driver's License encouraged.
• Willingness to learn multiple tasks.
• Ability to follow precise instructions and safety rules.
• Good attendance and safety record expected.
• Ability to work weekends and some nights.

Responsibilities

• Performs various unskilled tasks in asphalt paving and grading operations, including shoveling asphalt, stone or dirt.
• Uses tools such as shovel, rake, lute, broom, pick, hammer, saw, pneumatic hammer, drill, tamp and concrete saw.
• May operate a farm type tractor with power broom attachment.
• Performs duties of the designated spotter; training will be conducted.

Job Description:

Perform general labor duties including a designated spotter for trucks and equipment on an asphalt paving lay down crew or grading crew.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Performs various unskilled task which are associated with asphalt paving and/or grading operations. This includes but not limited shoveling asphalt, stone or dirt.
• Uses various tools such as a shovel, rake, lute, broom, pick, hammer, saw, pneumatic hammer, drill, tamp and concrete saw.
• May operate a farm type tractor with power broom attachment.
• Perform duties of the designated spotter of which training will be conducted.

Minimum Qualifications & Training:

• One year experience but will train the right person
• Encourage a valid NC Drivers License
• Willingness to learn multiple task
• Ability to abide by precise instructions and strict but necessary safety rules and policies.
• Maintain a good attendance and safety record.
• Ability to work weekends and some nights.

Tasks Essential to Job Functions:

• The job requires the following motions: standing, walking, stretching, bending, lifting, pulling, twisting, throwing, reaching and squatting.
• Requires regular lifting of or in excess of 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
• Walking and standing may require a full day of 12 to 15 hours.
• Will be exposed to sometimes extreme hot and cold temperatures.
• Job requires riding to and from work. If the driving of a company vehicle is required, then the guidelines of the company driver qualifications standards must be met.
