Job summary

Weider Contracting in Warrenton, VA is seeking an experienced Grade Foreman to lead grade crews outdoors, plan, supervise safety, and ensure quality site grading from start to finish.

You will read site plans, stakeout, manage manpower and equipment, and provide daily reports, all while fostering a safety-first culture and mentoring crew members.

This full-time role offers competitive pay based on experience, plus PTO and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Grade Crew Foreman in site development or heavy civil work.
  • Strong leadership abilities with a high level of safety awareness and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read site plans, perform stakeouts, and supervise grading operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead grade crews safely and efficiently while delivering precise site grading.
  • Plan daily activities, forecast labor and equipment needs, and document work with photos.
  • Enforce safety policies, mentor crew members, and maintain a positive, productive jobsite culture.
  • Read site plans and stakeout, supervise activity, and manage quality control on grading.

Key Responsibilities and Description of Duties:

Safety & Compliance

  • Identify and proactively address unsafe working conditions before incidents occur
  • Enforce safety policies by ensuring proper use of PPE and compliance with all safety procedures
  • Advanced safety training with strong knowledge of excavation and trench safety
  • Ability to safely shut down active utility lines during emergency situations when required
  • Proper use of confined space tools, safety devices, and procedures
  • Strong commitment to enforcing safety standards and jobsite best practices
  • Ability to set a positive tone daily and foster a respectful, safety-first culture

Leadership & Crew Management

  • Lead grade crew operations while setting the standard for safety, quality, and productivity
  • Lead by example through hands-on involvement and adherence to company standards
  • Maintain a calm, professional demeanor when resolving issues or working under pressure
  • Encourage employee growth by supporting skill development and sound decision-making
  • Maintain a positive jobsite atmosphere that promotes teamwork and accountability
  • Effectively communicate with crew members, management, inspectors, and other jobsite personnel
  • Conduct difficult or corrective conversations in a professional and respectful manner

Planning, Productivity & Reporting

  • Plan and clearly communicate daily work activities, goals, and expectations to crew members
  • Forecast and schedule labor, equipment, and material needs in advance
  • Identify work activities that fall outside of contract scope and communicate accordingly
  • Complete daily reports accurately and on time, including detailed descriptions of the work performed
  • Consistently document work with photos and upload them with daily timecards

Technical & Field Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret site plans, grades, and survey stakeout
  • Ability to shoot grades using a level and properly use grade rods
  • Experience laying out grading, pipe, and structures from survey stakeout
  • Proficiency with on-site GPS technology for layout and grading operations
  • Ability to identify different soil types, hardscape materials, and loose materials
  • Ability to safely and efficiently perform asphalt and concrete cutting when required
  • Ability to operate water removal devices and manage site drainage conditions

Position Type: Full Time

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Grade Crew Foreman in site development or heavy civil work
  • Strong leadership abilities with a high level of safety awareness and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required

Compensation:

  • Salary Position: Based on competency and skill level.
  • Vehicle reimbursement and fuel card.
  • Accrued paid time off (PTO) at start of employment, and paid holidays after 6 months.
  • Employer-sponsored Medical, Dental, and Vision Benefit Plans become available on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.
