Job Summary:

Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) is a joint venture between Caterpillar and Trimble whose purpose is to transform the way heavy equipment customers shape the world with solutions that differentiate Caterpillar and Trimble.

The Grade Control Test Engineer will be part of an international team providing internal verification and validation (V&V) for CTCT products. This position networks closely with CTCT internal product/project teams, as well as Caterpillar and Trimble product teams, to provide high-quality products to the earthmoving, paving, and mining industries. This hands-on role will leverage the expertise and training gained from previous verification and validation positions. We have a fabulous team that does some of the most exciting work at Caterpillar and we can’t wait for you to join the team!

What You Will Do:

  • Accountable for creating and executing test plans regarding internal verification and validation
  • Responsible for testing software/hardware fixes, finding bugs and issues, documentation, data collection setups, machine software & hardware updates, troubleshooting, and machine operation.
  • Daily on-machine OR bench test validation activities supporting grade control setups.
  • Drive usage of tools such as the Risk Based Thinking Process, Test Reports or Design Verification Plan & Report’s (DVP&R) to evaluate the effectiveness of the validation activity plan on critical failure modes, and direct activities to mitigate risk.
  • Follow products through the full lifecycle. This includes having knowledge and gaining expertise across all validation venues.
  • Management of Trimble, Caterpillar and CTCT databases used in tracking product issues

Education requirement:

Requires a degree in an accredited Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Engineering curriculum.

What skills you will have:

Product Testing:

  • Working knowledge in automotive, machine, or industrial embedded network communication software development fields.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude as well as manual dexterity to work well in bench test and machine test environments
  • Fluent with CAT ET, CANape, CANalyzer, software coding, and control systems

Technical Excellence:

  • Plays an active or leading role in recording and storing requirement documents in various forms.
  • Exposure to GNSS, machine control and guidance system design or validation

Analytical Thinking:

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a global team, dealers, and customers, as well as problem-solving and time management skills.

Effective Communications:

  • Explains own role and responsibility within team.
  • Shares information, knowledge, and insights openly and proactively.

Top Candidates will also have
