Job summary

Aftershoot is building AI-powered tools to help photographers post-process faster and more creatively. We’re seeking a graphics-focused engineer to turn raw sensor data into stunning images and to write GPU code for rapid processing across RAW and non-RAW pipelines.

You will design and optimize RAW image processing, tone mapping, sharpening, and denoising; evaluate approaches, run proofs of concept, and collaborate with product and design to balance quality and speed.

Qualifications

  • Deep, hands-on understanding of RAW image processing and color science with a focus on tone mapping.
  • Experience with advanced sharpening and classical denoising for RAW images.
  • Ability to scope research questions, build proofs of concept, and evaluate results for quality and performance.
  • GPU programming experience in CUDA, OpenCL, WGSL, or similar.
  • Knowledge of Local Laplacian Filters and edge-aware tone mapping.
  • Experience with image processing techniques such as style transfer or interactive tone/color adjustments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and improve RAW and non-RAW image processing algorithms across the pipeline.
  • Research candidate approaches, build proof-of-concept implementations, and evaluate quality objectively and subjectively before committing to integration.
  • Profile and optimize existing algorithms, primarily GPU-bound, against latency and throughput targets.
  • Make and defend quality-vs-performance tradeoffs, and communicate them to product and design stakeholders.
