The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is seeking a Legal Assistant to join its legal team in Prior Lake, MN. The role focuses on high-level matter management, including supporting the Deputy General Legal Counsel with task delegation, governance tasks, and file management.

Qualifications

5 years of experience preferred in legal or administrative support.
Strong proficiency with word-processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases and email.
Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret legal documents.
Excellent written and verbal communication with all levels of management.

Responsibilities

Provide advanced administrative and support duties for the Tribal Government and Legal Department.
Assist Deputy General Legal Counsel with task delegation, prioritization and monitoring.
Prepare agendas, minutes, resolutions and presentations; proofread and file legal documents.
Conduct independent research, analysis and prepare reports with recommendations.
Support various Community Departments with legal issues and guidance.
Maintain files and calendars for attorneys; assist with Child Welfare matters.
Serve as CERC Administrator if applicable and enforce SMSC policies.
