Job description

Department: Golf Course Reports to: Golf Pro Manager

Summary: Under the supervision of the Golf Pro, performs maintenance on carts including washing and cleaning, distribution of carts, assists customers with handling equipment, assist with driving range operations, and performs general grounds maintenance.

Essential Functions

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintains golf carts in good condition by assisting with maintenance including washing, battery charging, tire repairs and other regular scheduled maintenance.
  • Assists with the driving range operations. Pick up golf balls on range, stock golf balls at driving range, and wash driving range golf balls.
  • Assist patrons with handling of golf equipment.
  • Assist patrons with cart assignments and returns.
  • Provide information to the public concerning various fees, rules, regulations, procedures and golf course related events.
  • Provide exceptional quality customer service.
  • Keeps accurate time records of daily tasks.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance around club house, driving range and support facilities.
  • Supports the division operations with regular and timely attendance.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: Prefer similar part-time job experience. Must be at least 16 years old to be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the game of golf
  • Knowledge of the equipment used in the game of golf
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures and rules and regulations involved in the operation of a golf facility
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the general public, vendors and co-workers on a regular basis
  • Thorough knowledge of/and ability to follow established safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
License and certification requirements:

A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Lifting: 50+ pounds to load, unload and carry supplies, repair parts or equipment in the maintenance of all phases of upkeep of the golf course.
  • Agility: Required to use hands for fine manipulation while operating golf carts, tractor, truck or other vehicle.
  • Vision: Required to see visual signals such as gauges, instrument lights, traffic lights, signs and color changes while operating vehicle; visual signals such as unstable tires, pressure gauges, able to see other workers, equipment, and visitors in the area and safely operate vehicles and equipment in the golf course and on city streets. Must use peripheral and depth perception vision in driving situations while operating vehicles and equipment.
  • Hearing: Uses auditory senses to listen to oral communications on radio and telephone; to receive and give instructions while working with other employees to complete an assigned task; hear dangerous sounds relating to the mechanical operation of vehicles, equipment and any power tools with potential problems so repairs can be made for the safety for personnel, equipment and visitors to the golf course.
  • Reading: Required to read equipment and repair manuals and other written directions to properly instruct other employees and self in performance of specific job duties.
  • Writing: Required to complete paperwork as assigned.
  • Speaking: Required to enunciate and relay information to citizens, co-workers and supervisors via telephone and in person.
  • Environment: Ability to work in extreme conditions such as sleet, ice and snow or extreme heat and sunshine. High noise factors are present during operation of/ or while working in the vicinity of operating equipment. This employee primarily works outdoors.
  • Other Physical Requirements: Must stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach and lift overhead, lie down, crawl, knee stand, push and pull while performing job duties.
