Job summary

The Space and Geophysics Laboratory at UT Austin is seeking a GNSS Systems Engineering Scientist to lead requirements development and systems design for government-sponsored GNSS projects. You will translate stakeholder needs into actionable system architectures and guide decomposition into work units.

As part of a cross-disciplinary team, you will mentor junior engineers and collaborate across lifecycle activities from definition to deployment, including agile processes and risk assessments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science, applied science, or engineering.
  • Three years of relevant professional work experience developing systems requirements and designs.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, evaluate, and support the development of large and complex systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, contributing to the whole team.

Responsibilities

  • Elicit systems scope and requirements from stakeholders for use in systems designs.
  • Develop and evaluate systems design, including scope, requirements, components, interactions, and interfaces.
  • Communicate work process, products, and results through documentation, reports, and briefs to stakeholders.
  • Participate in Agile process, backlog management, and project decomposition into components and actionable work units.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders throughout life-cycle from definition to deployment.
  • Perform engineering estimates, guide project schedules, and identify dependencies.
  • Conduct engineering evaluations such as trade studies, reliability analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Mentor junior staff, technicians, and students.
  • Address other related functions as assigned.
