Job description

Our client headquartered in Virginia is seeking a Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer based in Huntsville, AL. The position reports to the Engineering Manager and offers growth opportunities in a hybrid workplace with two remote days. The GNC Engineer will perform end-to-end kinematic and dynamic simulations on Autopilot Control Systems, utilizing linear systems theory including Root Locus Analysis and Gain & Phase Margin evaluation.

The ideal candidate has physics domain expertise and algorithmic development of full 6-DoF motion models and Autopilot Control Systems in the Aerospace, Automotive or Robotics industry. Possesses proven analytical, written & verbal communication skills and able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Develop & analyze autopilot and control algorithms and contribute to high-fidelity simulation development


• Build autopilot and control laws for dynamic systems


• Perform target state estimation, filtering and sensor fusion


• Develop & maintain kinematic simulations and models to support system design & verification


• Interface with various external & internal stakeholders including systems, software and test engineering teams


• Support Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and system-level testing


• Assist with field testing and customer supported test activities as required

Requirements:

• Expertise with designing autopilot and control algorithms


• Experience with state estimation techniques, including Kalman filtering (EKF/UKF) or multi-sensor fusion


• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C++, Simulink or other high-level programming language


• Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10%)


• Familiarity with missile, UAV or aerospace vehicle systems a plus


• Experience with real-time embedded flight control software, sensor dynamic modeling and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) & Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test automation a plus

Qualifications:

• 4-8 Years of Controls Engineering or Guidance, Navigation and Control experience


• 2+ Years of 6-DoF (Six Degrees of Freedom) Simulation and Guidance Algorithms


• Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year College or University in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s or PhD a plus)


• Must be US Citizen and eligible to obtain US DoD Secret Clearance (active clearance a plus)
