Job summary

Bachem Americas in Torrance, CA is seeking a Chemist to manufacture APIs in a cGMP environment and perform related activities. The role covers equipment operation, in-process testing and process development within a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include synthesis, purification, batch records, material coordination, and maintaining GMP documentation. Strong communication, teamwork and ability to handle hazardous materials are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field or 10+ years experience in GMP manufacturing.
• Experience with GMP and FDA regulations is preferred.
• Experience in manufacture of peptides and oligonucleotides is preferred.
• Capable of following GMP guidelines and housekeeping rules.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team and communicate proactively.
• Ability to accommodate four 10-hour shift schedules weekly (start times 5:00am–3:00pm).
• Ability to organize, multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer knowledge including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work with hazardous materials and chemicals.

Responsibilities

• Install, operate and maintain equipment for manufacturing and in-process testing (HPLC/UPLC, lyophilizers, balances, reactors, HF cleavage equipment, diafiltration systems, water purification systems, ovens, washing systems).
• Perform solid and liquid phase synthesis, deprotect and cleave API from resin using chemical cocktails.
• Perform purification via chromatography, crystallization and other techniques.
• Follow GMP directions using Master Batch Records, SOPs, STPs and related GMP documents.
• Coordinate raw material orders, QA/QC, and inventory, and monitor material release.
• Maintain GMP Documentation System; investigate deviations and produce reports; support document change requests.
• Maintain/organize work areas and equipment within the manufacturing facility.
• Write and improve SOPs, STMs, MBPRs and related GMP documents.
• Follow SOPs to clean equipment and maintain cleaning logs; dispose chemical waste.
• Monitor maintenance and cleaning procedures by reviewing and signing logs.
