Job summary

Expeditors International in the United States is seeking a Trade Compliance Coordinator to support the efficient movement of goods worldwide, ensuring legal compliance and handling import/export administration.

You will interface with customers, freight forwarders, customs officers and internal teams to coordinate shipments; role requires five days per week with Saturday/Sunday coverage. Strong regulatory knowledge and proactive problem solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent working experience.
• 1-3 years related experience in customs compliance operations, import or export operations preferred.
• Understanding of international trade and customs regulations, incoterms and impacts to supply chain.
• Knowledge of international air and ocean transport logistics processes.
• Excellent customer service skills, including negotiation, listening and clear communication.
• Risk awareness, recognizing arising or likely problems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-starter with triage and prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
• Time management, resource management, attention to detail, and persuasion skills.

Responsibilities

• Build customer relationships and provide excellent customer service.
• Identify and address issues affecting customer satisfaction and improve outcomes.
• Monitor and manage the ticketing system for customs compliance requests and resolve quickly.
• Ensure 100% adherence to laws, regulations, and corporate policies.
• Verify shipping documents and invoices for import/export compliance and complete exceptions tasks.
• Evaluate import/export restrictions and regulatory requirements for industry impact.
• Enhance regional matter expertise and communicate policies across teams.
• Advise customers on import/export restrictions and customs matters.
• Track operational metrics daily and meet SLAs.
• Escalate issues and update management on work orders as needed.
• Identify process gaps and suggest improvements.
• Stay up-to-date on regulatory requirements and best practices and apply knowledge.
• Support project execution and drive assigned initiatives.
• Assist with new business initiatives and smooth transitions between Compliance Teams.
• Document and track project issues and action items, with follow-up as needed.
