Job summary

General Atomics is seeking a Trade Compliance Classification Specialist to apply U.S. export/import regulations to classify hardware, software, and data per EAR, ITAR, HTSUS. The role supports cross-functional teams, audits, and ongoing regulatory updates.

The role requires strong written analysis, attention to detail, and the ability to work with Engineering, Legal, and Supply Chain across GA affiliates. Remote work options are available for this position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in business, engineering or related field with import/export experience.
• Strong understanding of import/export principles and regulatory concepts.
• Clear knowledge of ITAR, EAR, HTS, and related compliance processes.
• Ability to analyze technical data and document regulatory applicability clearly.
• Experience reading drawings, specs and BOMs to classify items.

Responsibilities

• Determine and maintain export classifications (ECCN) and ITAR/USML categories.
• Determine and maintain import classifications (HTS/Schedule B) for materials.
• Review engineering docs to understand technical characteristics.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Legal to gather data.
• Document rationales and maintain classification records per procedures.
• Support audits and monitor regulatory changes affecting classifications.
• Provide guidance on basic classification concepts to internal teams.
