Block, Inc. in the San Francisco Bay Area seeks a Senior Director of Global Tax Planning & Controversy to lead its international tax strategy, transfer pricing, and U.S. federal/state planning.

Reporting to the CAO, you will shape global tax structures and manage high‑visibility cross‑border transactions. You will direct domestic and international tax planning, oversee controversy matters, and partner with Legal, Corporate Development, and Treasury to align tax strategy with business objectives

Qualifikationen

• 15+ years of multinational corporate income tax experience spanning complex global tax planning, M&A, and tax controversy.
• In-house tax leadership experience advising senior executives and cross‑functional partners on material tax matters.
• Deep U.S. international tax expertise: cross‑border tax, foreign tax credits, treaties, withholding, permanent establishment, cross‑border financing, and transfer pricing.
• Deep U.S. federal corporate tax knowledge: Subchapter C, consolidated returns, reorganizations, financing transactions, and attribute limitation rules.
• Proven track record developing and executing sophisticated tax‑planning strategies and leading domestic and cross‑border transactions end‑to‑end.
• Experience managing significant U.S. and foreign income tax audits with defensible technical positions.
• Strong research, modeling, and technical‑writing skills with sound judgment in uncertain areas.
• Executive presence and a proven record of building high‑performing teams.

Aufgaben

• Develop and execute Block's global tax planning strategies aligned with business objectives and risk tolerance.
• Lead international tax planning related to global operations, including cross-border structures and IP arrangements.
• Own U.S. federal and state income tax planning, including consolidated returns and nexus planning.
• Analyze tax considerations for new product launches and market entry, partnering with the business to craft solutions.
• Monitor developments in tax law and policy; assess impact on Block's global structure and tax risk.
• Lead tax aspects of domestic and cross-border transactions from due diligence to post‑closing tax return implementation.
• Negotiate tax provisions in contracts and agreements, including tax representations and covenants.
• Own Block's direct tax controversy strategy across federal, state, local, and foreign audits.
