Job summary

Block is seeking a Senior Director, Global Tax Planning and Controversy to lead international tax planning, transfer pricing strategy, and tax controversy across the company’s global operations. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, you will shape structures, advise on cross-border transactions, and manage large-scale audits with executive presence.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of multinational corporate income tax experience spanning complex global tax planning, M&A, and tax controversy.
• In-house tax experience at a publicly traded multinational with senior leadership exposure.
• Deep U.S. international tax expertise: cross-border tax, foreign tax credits, treaties, withholding, and transfer pricing.
• Deep U.S. federal corporate tax knowledge: Subchapter C, consolidated returns, financing transactions, and attribute rules.
• Track record of developing and executing sophisticated tax-planning strategies and leading transactions end-to-end.
• Experience managing significant U.S. and foreign income tax audits and disputes with tax authorities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute Block’s global tax planning strategies aligned with business objectives and risk tolerance.
• Lead international tax planning related to cross-border structures, IP arrangements, intercompany transactions and funding.
• Own U.S. federal and state income tax planning, consolidated returns, and nexus planning.
• Assess tax implications for new products, market entries, and expansions; partner with business on solutions.
• Monitor regulatory developments and address impact on global structure and compliance obligations.
• Lead tax aspects of acquisitions, dispositions, investments, joint ventures, and restructurings from due diligence to integration.
• Draft and negotiate tax provisions in agreements; supervise tax attributes and audit readiness.
