Job summary

The University of Iowa’s International Programs invites applications for a full-time Study Abroad Advisor & Program Coordinator to support undergraduate study abroad experiences.

You will guide students through program selection, applications, housing, credit transfer, and predeparture planning, while coordinating with UI academic advisors, study abroad providers, and campus partners to ensure a smooth, compliant experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 1 year of office or administrative experience.
• Ability to work with students in an advisor and/or instructor role including knowledge of course arrangement and academic planning.
• Ability to provide academic counseling.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent objectives, meetings, projects, groups, or activities.
• Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
• Understanding of the role of study abroad advising in higher education.
• Understanding of the undergraduate student experience at 2- or 4-year institutions.
• Experience in intercultural and international education settings.

Responsibilities

• Advise undergraduate students on study abroad programs that align with their academic, personal, and professional goals, serving as designated advisor for a portfolio of majors.
• Collaborate with International Programs colleagues, UI academic advisors, and study abroad providers to resolve issues related to program applications, passports, visas, and course approvals.
• Guide students through program applications and predeparture planning, using in-person and virtual appointments and effective email communication to explain procedures and disseminate information.
