Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking an International Student and Scholar Advisor to guide international students and scholars through immigration processes, eligibility, and compliance.

The role emphasizes accurate SEVIS management, documentation, and timely responses to regulatory requirements within a busy university setting. You will collaborate with campus partners, participate in ongoing professional development, and support resources and orientations for the international

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience.
• 1 year international advising experience.
• No professional licenses required.
• Knowledge of SEVIS and immigration policies.

Responsibilities

• Immigration Advising and Compliance: Advise international students, scholars, and dependents on immigration matters and maintain status.
• Interprets regulations from DHS, DOS, DOS, and DOL to academic/employment situations.
• Serves as a DSO and ARO; maintains SEVIS records and supports audits.
• Immigration Document Preparation: Prepare sponsorships, extensions, changes of status for F‑1/J‑1/H‑1B statuses.
• Review documents, request evidence, and ensure accuracy of records.
• Maintain organized electronic/paper files for compliance and reporting.
• Respond to inquiries using approved templates and timelines.
• Support peak periods with occasional evenings/weekends.
• Student/Scholar Support: Contribute to resources, orientations, webinars, and guidance.
• Professional Development: Stay current via NAFA/ trainings and conferences.
