Job summary

Merck is seeking an Associate Director of Equipment Engineering in Durham, NC, to lead packaging and device assembly equipment efforts across sites. The role emphasizes project leadership, process improvement, and compliant packaging operations throughout the lifecycle.

You will leverage CAD, automation, and validation expertise to drive robust packaging solutions, coordinate global site projects, and mentor cross-functional teams in a dynamic, regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science/Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years in pharma/biotech/medical devices with 3+ years in a leadership role.
• Proven ability to develop and implement equipment standards across multiple sites.
• Strong background in packaging devices, MDCP, and regulatory compliance (GMP).
• Experience with design control, process validation, root cause analysis, and change control.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex packaging/equipment projects and technology assessments.
• Oversee capital projects, equipment transfers, and site launches.
• Serve as SME for packaging and assembly equipment across networks.
• Apply mechanical/electrical, automation, and CAD knowledge to troubleshoot issues.
• Support serialization strategy with Serialization CoE and ensure standards across sites.
