Job summary

Merck & Co. seeks an Associate Director, Global Oncology Communications to lead external communications strategies for the oncology portfolio.

The role supports editorial planning, data milestone disclosures and regulatory milestones in a fast-paced environment, reporting to the Director of Global Oncology Communications. Based in Rahway, NJ or Upper Gwynedd, PA, with a hybrid setup (3 days in-office, 2 days remote).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or life sciences.
  • Minimum five years' experience in communications or public relations; healthcare and pharmaceutical experience at a global publicly traded company preferred.
  • Product communications experience including data milestones and regulatory milestones; launch experience desirable.
  • Deep understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry, media landscape, and business acumen.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to work under tight deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience in crisis communications and long-term strategic counseling.
  • Strong project management and ability to juggle multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement integrated communications activities for oncology in-line products and Phase 3 assets, with emphasis on data milestones and regulatory milestones.
  • Drive integrated editorial strategy to raise external awareness through targeted outreach across social and digital channels.
  • Identify and develop unique storylines, media and thought-leadership opportunities for late-stage assets.
  • Prepare oncology leaders on message delivery, media engagement and external speaking opportunities.
  • Develop and communicate strategies and materials for regions and subsidiaries worldwide; advise regions on franchise and product communications.
  • Liaise with third-party groups and external experts and with trade/media outlets.
  • Manage high volume of press releases and digital content through medical/legal review processes.
  • Collaborate with public relations agencies and manage related budgets.
