Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a capacity planning leader to own CPU capacity management across Research and Compute. You will bridge workload forecasts with resource plans across CPU, storage, and network for a global fleet, collaborating with engineering, finance, and cloud providers.

You will shape multi-year capacity strategies, optimize utilization, and drive cost improvements while maintaining workload performance and reliability. This role is based in San Francisco with relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in technical program management, capacity planning, or infrastructure management.
• Experience with demand forecasting, supply planning, allocations, and capacity operations for CPU or cloud compute.
• Ability to reason across CPUs, GPUs, storage, and networks and influence engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead CPU demand planning across Research, Compute, and application infrastructure.
• Translate workload growth into integrated CPU, storage, and network requirements.
• Reconcile supply with demand, model constrained scenarios, and manage allocations.
• Coordinate CPU and network allocations with regional deployment across the fleet.
• Understand workload architecture to guide sizing, data movement, and storage choices.
• Drive fleet efficiency through reclaiming unused capacity and rightsizing workloads.
• Scale integrated capacity planning across CPU, storage, and network with owners.
• Shape capacity orders and renewal decisions with cloud providers and finance.
• Align capacity plans with deployment milestones and resolve gaps for usable capacity.
• Provide leadership with clear demand, supply, and risk views to enable decisions.
