Job summary

Genentech, part of Roche, seeks a Global Head of Legal Spend Management to transform how external legal services are valued, priced, and managed. You will oversee a multi-billion global budget, drive real-time analytics, and modernize pricing with AFAs and outcome-based models.

You will lead international teams, negotiate with top firms, and implement unified e-billing and matter management to deliver data-driven savings and strategic support for digital initiatives.

Qualifications

• 10+ years leading legal procurement, operations, or commercial management in a corporate or large firm.
• Proven track record managing large global legal budgets and negotiating AFAs.
• Deep understanding of how AI, automation, and LegalTech affect legal economics.
• Experience building international teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA/Law degree a plus.

Responsibilities

• Establish centralized governance, real-time analytics, and spend transparency across global legal divisions.
• Lead commercial strategy, rate negotiations, global panel management, and ALSP integration.
• Modernize pricing from hourly to AFAs, capped fees, and outcome-based pricing.
• Evaluate external counsel by expertise, tech maturity, and AI-driven efficiency gains.
• Oversee global rollout of unified e-billing and matter management systems.
• Coordinate multi-party delivery models among internal teams, firms, and LegalTech partners.
• Educate in-house teams on commercial management and matter budgeting.
