Job summary

TikTok is seeking an experienced export controls counsel to join its Global Legal Compliance team in New York. You will advise on export controls issues, work with R&D and engineering on product classifications, and lead international trade due diligence.

This role requires strong knowledge of the U.S. Export Administration Regulations, licensing strategies, and ability to navigate cross-border technology transfers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and licensed to practice in a common law jurisdiction.
• Proven export controls compliance experience in law firms and/or in-house roles.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. Export Administration Regulations and related laws.
• Experience with product classifications under the Commerce Control List.
• Ability to proactively identify export controls issues and assess risks.
• Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.
• Highest ethics standard and willingness to learn new skills.

Responsibilities

• Advise stakeholders on export controls issues and provide practical solutions.
• Advise R&D on product classifications and cross-border transfers.
• Draft and negotiate trade compliance provisions in agreements and lead international due diligence.
• Represent the company before agencies (e.g., BIS) and manage licensing strategies.
• Design the Export Compliance Program and deliver targeted training.
• Develop and maintain internal export policies and tools.
• Support export compliance process automation efforts.
• Monitor evolving export control laws and guidance.
• Conduct risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and close gaps.
• Assess impacts of changes to export controls with stakeholders.
• Support ad hoc projects for the Global Legal Compliance Team.
