Job summary

Google’s Hardware Operations team seeks a dedicated Area Lead to manage a large data center portfolio. You will oversee a distributed team of Site Leaders, drive operational KPIs, safety, and cost objectives while ensuring reliable server hardware configurations across multiple regions.

You will lead lifecycle management of hardware and software, align priorities with Cloud and Infrastructure, and develop contingency plans. This role requires delivering results in a high‑demand environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 10 years of experience leading technical teams responsible for installing, configuring, testing and maintaining hardware servers.
• 3 years of site-level data center operational leadership.
• 3 years of experience developing and managing managers.
• Experience with Linux and developing network architectures.
• Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and hire a distributed team of Site Leaders to drive KPIs and foster a high-performance culture.
• Oversee hardware and software lifecycle including installation and maintenance.
• Drive efficiency and align objectives with Cloud, Infrastructure, and broader business goals.
• Foster cross-functional partnerships with DCOps, Networking, Safety, Construction, and Security.
• Host site visits and coordinate engagements with Government Affairs on key milestones.
