Job summary

ByteDance seeks a data center mechanical engineer to drive regional Americas projects—from site selection and design reviews to data hall fit-outs and commissioning. You will collaborate with engineering, architecture, and construction teams to ensure capacity planning and redundancy meet performance targets.

Expect travel up to six times per year to various regions and a focus on scalable, reliable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Strong knowledge of power and cooling designs and capacity calculations.
• Understanding of 2N or N+1 redundancy and ASHRAE standards.
• Experience with data center design reviews and concept-to-detailed design processes.
• Experience leading or influencing engineering and construction teams.

Responsibilities

• Participate in data center site selection and contractual evaluations.
• Review MEP design for data center builds and data hall fit-outs.
• Create data hall layout plans and perform test fits for server capacity and failover.
• Support testing, commissioning, and risk mitigation discussions.
• Act as SME for design practicality and future scalability.
• Conduct periodic audits to assess in-use design effectiveness.
• Explain data center infrastructure design to visitors, collaborate widely.
