Job summary

BMI Financial Group is seeking a senior bilingual attorney to lead all legal matters for its U.S. operations and offshore entities from its Miami base. The role covers regulatory affairs, corporate governance, contracts, litigation, and complex claims, with supervision of two in-house associates.

The ideal candidate has a JD, 10+ years’ experience in insurance law, and fluency in English/Spanish, with strong leadership and strategic capabilities for cross-border initiatives.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited school.
• Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Minimum 10 years legal experience, with significant in-house insurance industry exposure.
• Experience with Puerto Rico OCI and NAIC regulatory frameworks is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary legal partner for BMI’s U.S. operations and offshore entities, overseeing governance, regulatory, litigation, and contracts.
• Lead regulatory affairs with Florida OIR, Puerto Rico OCI, and other state departments of insurance; manage filings and license renewals.
• Oversee corporate records, board minutes, and HQ-level governance; coordinate intercompany agreements and contract templates.
• Manage litigation portfolio, settlements, and coordination with outside counsel; supervise in-house associates.
• Provide strategic guidance on cross-border expansion, technology, data privacy, employment, and strategic initiatives.
