Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Global Commodity Manager to lead the global strategy for critical commodities, driving cost competitiveness, supply resilience, and innovation across a multi-tier network. You will shape mobility and electrification strategies and build strategic supplier partnerships.

Responsibilities include directing purchasing activities, leading a global team, and collaborating with Engineering, Logistics, Legal, and Finance to reduce costs and ensure compliant procurement

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 10+ years of global purchasing or procurement experience.
• Proven track record of directly leading teams (4–5+ people).
• Demonstrated negotiation, supplier management, and analytical skills.
• Strategic orientation with ability to navigate ambiguity and drive results.
• Strong interpersonal skills to lead cross-functional teams and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive commodity strategy and business plan.
• Lead global teams to develop commodity strategies and sourcing recommendations.
• Coach and develop employees across locations to build a high-performing global team.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Logistics, Manufacturing, Legal, and Corporate Development to reduce costs.
• Oversee procurement activities, negotiate contracts, and manage cradle-to-grave budgets.
• Develop capacity assessments to match GM demand with supplier capacity and compliance needs.
• Provide guidance on programs and new product/process development.
