Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Global Commodity Manager to lead the global strategy for critical commodities, driving cost competitiveness, supply resilience, and innovation across a multi-tier network. This role reports to Warren, Michigan with a hybrid work model and frequent cross-functional collaboration.

You will manage procurement activities, develop sourcing strategies, and guide supplier relationships while mentoring a global team to deliver measurable results in cost savings and process

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 10+ years in global purchasing or procurement.
• Proven track record of directly leading teams (4–5 people) and delivering results.
• Strong negotiation, supplier management and cross-functional collaboration.
• Willingness to travel 10–20% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive commodity strategy.
• Lead global teams to develop sourcing recommendations and regional strategies.
• Coach and lead employees across locations to build an effective global team.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Legal, Corporate Development to drive cost reduction.
• Manage procurement activities, development of sourcing strategy, and contract negotiations.
• Develop capacity assessments of components to match GM demand with supplier capacity and ensure compliance.
• Provide technical and business process guidance for successful program execution.
• Lead development of new products, processes, standards, or operational plans.
• Support GM’s business strategies with direct impact on results.
• Lead supplier relationships and address operational issues.
